Finding home in Prince George

Prince George is home!

Can you imagine seeing bears and squirrels though your sunglasses in November (assuming the bears are awake) in a place that’s only 10 minutes door-to-door from your home to your office or school, a place you can ski or swim in a lake and still have time to go to class all in the same day?

Prince George is home. It’s more like a home to me than I had in the place I grew up in. Everybody takes care of everyone here, and I haven’t found this anywhere else: not in Shanghai, not in Vancouver. There’s something about Prince George that has always amazed me. People support each other and the community. People are polite, respectful and friendly. It welcomes you and celebrates where you are from. It’s a place that will welcome you. If you stay here for any length of time – get involved!

I love PrincRiding a chairlift at sunset.e George. I never thought that I would be what people would call a country girl. There are so many activities you can do that you cannot do in the big cities. You can drive 20 mins to go snowboarding in big cities or go around the corner and go fishing. Prince George is a great place for young adults like us to stay, study and start our career in here! In Prince George, I have been able to study, work, and have a social life. More specifically, I’ve had excellent instruction, real career opportunities, and people from all around the world get together to have fun. It’s also a great place to raise a family, to visit and of course, a great place to work.

I like the fact that Prince George is not too big and it’s not too small. Before I move to here, all I heard is this city is in the middle of nowhere. I made the decision to move to Prince George in 2014 and so far, it has been the best decision that I ever made. I have been living here for over two years and I think it’s in the middle of everywhere. I think my boyfriend and I are going to stay here for a long time. It’s beautiful, sunny and it’s not too hot. What I like about this town is that it’s very active during winter time, people love to go outside. To me, the snow in here is a magic as I had never seen it before.

Can you imagine that you can go from preschool to a PhD without ever leaving Prince George? International students like me can go to the CollegeCollege of New Caledonia of New Caledonia (CNC) and the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC). Unlike post-secondary schools in some of the big cities, UNBC and CNC have smaller class sizes. Students can get the chance to talk to their instructors or professors in class. There are hundreds of programs available for you, from trades to Accounting, from Culinary Arts to Nursing, from Finance to Medical school. There are so many great opportunities here! To me, the most enjoyable part is that I get the chance to meeting so many people every single day. I meet so many different people and spend time chatting with them. It’s an amazing experience to live in Prince George.

I’m excited about what I am doing now; I’m challenged in a positive way.

Thank you, Prince George!
