About The Opportunity:
If you demonstrate sound judgement, are adept at diffusing difficult situations, and are experienced working with animals, we have a rewarding term position in our Bylaw Services Division for you! Your role will involve handling animal related complaints, applying and explaining bylaw requirements and giving notice and/or laying charges, as necessary. In the course of your duties, you will patrol the City including parks and trails ensuring animal control regulations are being followed. This is a physically demanding position that involves apprehending animals as well as working outdoors in all weather conditions. The Animal Control Officer must be available for stand-by call outs after hours and on weekends.
About Your Background:
In addition to Grade 12, ideally you have completed the Bylaw Enforcement and Investigative Skills Certificate Program, Level 1, through the Justice Institute of BC and have at least one year of experience in a regulatory environment with a strong background in investigative and enforcement work. Experience handling and apprehending potentially aggressive and/or dangerous animals would be an asset. The successful candidate will complete the Animal Control Basic Training On-Line Certificate Program from Langara College within one year of hire. A valid full privilege Class 5 Driver’s License is required (or out of province equivalent) and you must be able to obtain and maintain a clear Police Information Check for offenses related to the position.
