Executive Director Job in Prince George, BC

ABOUT US:

Niwȋķȏwin Métis Family Services Society (NMFSS) is a progressive and innovative Society committed to working collaboratively with Métis families and our community to increase families’ capacity to nurture and care for their children in a culturally relevant manner. NMFSS is currently in the process of applying for delegation with the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD). This will allow NMFSS to provide a broad range of services including child guardianship, family support, enhancement of cultural participation, and involvement with our Métis community. NMFSS also runs the Kîķi Awâsis Day Care for Métis children in Prince George.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement a forward-thinking vision and strategy for our family services programs, ensuring alignment with our mission and values.

Program Management: Oversee the day-to-day operations of our family services programs in collaboration with the Board of Directors, funders, and community partners.

Team Development: Build and lead a high-performing team that fosters a culture promoting ethical practices and encouraging individual integrity and social responsibility.

Resource Development: Identify and secure funding opportunities, grants, and partnerships to support program growth and sustainability.

Community Engagement: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with community partners, stakeholders, and donors to enhance our impact.

Advocacy: Serve as a passionate advocate for Métis children and families, bringing forward issues impacting them.  

Financial Stewardship: Manage the budget, financial reporting, and fiscal responsibility of our family services programs.

Risk Management: Identify principal risks of the business and ensure the implementation of systems to manage these risks.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Child and Youth Care or a related degree and a minimum of five (5) years child welfare experience with Indigenous peoples
• Extensive experience working in the child welfare system (i.e., child protection, resource services, fostering, guardianship/adoption services)
• Preference may be given to candidates with a Master’s Degree in Social Work or a related field;

ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge and experience in contract management and proposal writing.
• A solid understanding of working in a Métis organization and with Métis culture.
• Experience establishing and/or managing a professional office, including hiring staff, managing budgets, overseeing operations, setting a strategic direction, and employing strategic business planning as well as project management and policy development.
• Experience in delivering culturally based Indigenous services to children and families.
• Experience working with a Governance Board of Directors and partnership organizations.
• Working knowledge of the Child, Family, & Community Service Act (CFCSA) and the Aboriginal Operational and Practice Standards and Indicators (AOPSI).
• Demonstrated leadership experience with exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive, collaborative relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders.
• Well-honed analytical and conceptual thinking skills combined with excellent verbal and written communications skills.

WORKING/SPECIAL CONDITIONS:

• This is a full-time position working Monday to Friday 8:30 to 4:30 in the Niwîķôwin office located in the city of Prince George, BC.
• Must be willing to travel and work evenings and weekends as required.

• Successful completion of security screening requirements of the BC Public Service which includes a Criminal Record Check and a Criminal Records Review Act (CRRA).
• A valid BC class 5 Driver’s license and favourable driver’s abstract.
