About the opportunity:
Reporting to the Director of Administrative Services, the Fire Chief is responsible for conceptualizing, guiding, and implementing a strategic vision for the Fire Department and ensuring that Prince George Fire Rescue Services (PGFRS) provides responsive, professional services to meet the needs of the community. The Fire Chief is accountable for the effective delivery of fire suppression, medical, rescue, protection, education, prevention, and emergency fire dispatch services within the City of Prince George. Through subordinate supervisors, the Fire Chief plans, organizes, directs, and controls all PGFRS activities and personnel engaged in firefighting, fire prevention, training, rescue, and other related services. At the City Manager’s discretion, the Fire Chief may be designated to act as a Deputy Director of the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC).
About your background:
The successful candidate will hold a post-secondary degree or diploma in Fire Leadership, Business Administration, or a related field. Completion of IFSTA Fire Officer 2 is essential. This role requires extensive senior management experience with proven leadership experience and skills. Considerable experience working within the Fire Service and its culture is fundamental. You are a well-rounded individual with complex incident command experience and undeniable leadership abilities. Proven, in-depth knowledge of organizational performance, human resources, finance, and the political issues facing Canadian emergency service organizations is critical. This position requires a decisive, strategic thinker who has demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication, change management expertise, and strong negotiation abilities. The ability to build effective relationships is essential.
