Wildlife Engagement Specialist
$75,552.53 – $86,175.83 annually plus 3.3% Temporary Market Adjustment

The Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship is accountable for integrated land and natural resource management, including setting objectives for land and marine environments, effectively managing cumulative effects, advancing reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples, environmental sustainability and economic growth.

The Wildlife Engagement Specialist will implement and support wildlife and ecosystems management with a focus on leading First Nation engagement as it relates to wildlife management. A strong wildlife management background will contribute to leading collaborative activities focused on Indigenous reconciliation and implementing the Together for Wildlife strategy to improve wildlife management in the Omineca Region.

Qualifications for this role include:

• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences or related field plus 3 or more years of related experience.
• Registered (or immediately eligible for registration) as a Registered Professional Biologist (RPBio) in BC with the College of Applied Biology (CAB). Note: Immediately eligible for registration is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction to the CAB within six (6) months of employment. Confirmation of registration/eligibility is required before an offer of employment can be made.
• Experience assessing and monitoring natural resources including engaging First Nations in wildlife management projects or programs including collaboratively delivered work.

Related Experience:

• Experience in wildlife management projects or programs including collaboratively delivered work with First Nations.
• Experience managing complex and sensitive natural resource management issues or projects related to wildlife or wildlife habitat in a team environment.
• Experience leading programs, projects, or initiatives related to the management, protection, or recovery of species or ecosystems.
• Experience building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders
