22 things to do in 2022

Skip the resolutions, and get out and explore Prince George. For locals, it’s a great reminder of activities and attractions to write off your bucket list and for travellers to try something a little different than the usual tourist sights. Try Nordic Skiing

Whether you are a long time nordic skier, the Caledonia Nordic Ski club has endless opportunities for trails to explore. Some trails are also lit up at night for a moonlit ski, and rentals are available too.

Skate the Ice Oval

The large 400-metre outdoor skating rink is so much fun. With day passes at $2/person or $5/family, you can grab your skates and loop around the oval for an outdoor winter experience right within town.

Catch the Aurora Borealis

This one will require a little bit of work, and a touch of luck but seeing the northern lights dance in the midnight skies is a truly northern experience and should be on everyone’s bucket list. We’ve written a full blog to help you find them.

Explore A Virtual Reality

For an afternoon of immersive virtual reality, stop by Gamechangerz or All Around Gamerz VR Lounge & Arcade. With plenty of games to choose from including multiplayer games, you can go out for a special date night, drop in “just because”, or book the venue for a private party or event.

Yoga in the Park

Experience one of Prince George’s scenic urban parks with summer yoga classes outside every weekend. Find some zen amongst wild forests and against the backdrop of our beautiful rivers. Check in with Chinook Yoga for a list of locations and times closer to June.

Bird’s Eye View

Experience Prince George from the skies with Aberdeen Helicopters Ltd. This sightseeing tour offers some of the best views that overlook the city and surrounding mountain ranges. Choose between flight routes that discover backcountry mountains and lakes or try a more urban city tour.

Hook the Big One

With over 1,600 lakes, rivers, and streams within a 100 km radius of Prince George, there is no shortage of spots to try your hand at fishing. Free rod, tackle, and life jacket rentals are available at the Visitor Centre for locals and visitors alike to get out and explore the waters.

Walk David Douglas Botanical Garden

One of the northernmost botanical gardens in BC, the David Douglas Botanical Garden is a must-see. Located at the University of Northern British Columbia, the garden features a unique wetland environment that is home to many species of birds and small wildlife.

Try PG’s Newest Disc Golf Course

When the ski season is over, disc golf begins. Head on up to the Hart Ski Hill and try your hand at Prince George’s first 18-hole disc golf course that was built in 2021.

Spot Local Wildlife

For a chance to see beavers, fish and birds within the city, check out Hudson Bay Slough Wetland. The 1.8 km trail features various viewing platforms to give you the best chance of seeing our local wildlife.

Hike Livingston Springs

This natural spring stays an average of 2 degrees throughout the year, offering sanctuary for wildlife during cold winter days. Just a quick drive up to Bear Lake will have you tromping through wild forests on this 8.7 km hike.

Spend An Evening at the Hart Night Market

During the summer, jump up to one of the monthly Hart Night Market in Prince George. Live music and vendors and food trucks flood the area for a great time to enjoy the best of the warm weather.

Shred the Hart Ski Hill

The Hart Skill Hill is great for beginners and families to get out and try their hand at downhill skiing or snowboarding. Instructors can help provide tips and tricks for hitting the slopes and finding the right equipment for you. Plus, on select days you can try night skiing with lit up runs.

Grab a friend and taste your way around Prince George by checking out the local cafes within the city. During the months of October, each cafe makes its own twist on the famous pumpkin spice latte.

Catch the Holiday Lights

Head on over to Northern Lights Estate Winery and the Railway and Forestry Museum and check out the magical light displays during the winter holiday season. Both events run in December with various times and family-fun activities.

Keep an eye out this summer for local food trucks popping up throughout the city. With so many new trucks from vegan tacos, smoked meats and delicious doughnut trucks – you’ll want to track these foodie bites down and have your own personal feast.

Join the Potato Festival

Over 100 years ago Annie Huble grew potatoes which she sold to travellers, and this tradition still takes place. Take part in this century-old tradition and check out different historic demonstrations, family games, and live music during the festivities.
