4 fun and spooky family and pet-friendly Halloween events

2020 seems to be the year that is going by so fast and slow at the same time. As we know, this is a year like no other. As each week passes kids are getting more and more excited about Halloween. Provincial Health Officer Dr. Henry has provided some guidance on trick or treating, but I know many families are looking for alternative celebration options this year.

I have to be honest when I say I am not a fan of Halloween. Saying that, I know how much my boys love the day. The costumes, the candy, and for my oldest – being spooked. I was really scratching my head as to what I was going to do this year. Luckily, Prince George has stepped up. I truly love our community and once again there are COVID-friendly events for me to take the boys to and celebrate All Hallows’ Eve.

Halloweenie Roast and Pumpkin Drive

Date: Thursday, October 29, 2020
Time: 10 am – 2 pm
Location: Spruce Credit Union – Hart Highway
Hosted by: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern BC, Spruce Credit Union, Vista Radio

This is a great way to help support a local non-profit, grab lunch, and get a pumpkin donated by Save on Foods. Volunteers will serve you a BBQ lunch and load pumpkins into your car during this drive-thru event. There are only 150 pumpkins available, so come early! Everything is by donation with 100% of the proceeds going toward BBBS mentoring programs.

Halloween Haunt

Date:  Saturday, October 31, 2020
Time: 1 pm – 4 pm
Location:  Prince George Native Friendship Centre parking lot
Hosted by:  101.3 The River and 99.3 The Drive

This is a drive-thru trick or treating event that follows physical distancing guidelines. 20 local businesses will set up in the parking lot to give candy to families as they drive through. There’s no need to get out of our car! All you have to do is drive to the event, roll down your child’s window, and drive by and stop at each tent in the line! So drive through before you head home to enjoy whatever other Halloween fun you have planned.

Candy Cruise

Date: Saturday, October 31, 2020
Time: 4 pm – 9 pm
Location: Around Prince George
Hosted by: Dave Horton Co. – Pandemic Friendly Entertainment

If you want to go trick-or-treating a little later in the evening, this event is for you. Candy Cruise Prince George is a family-friendly event that gives you the opportunity to trick-or-treat from the safety of your vehicle. Get dressed up and visit each of the ten locations spread around Prince George that each feature four to six partner organizations that will be handing out candy from their individual specially decorated booths. Instead of buying candy to hand out from your home, you’re encouraged to make a donation toward this event. Any donations remaining after the cost of the event are covered will be evenly distributed among three partner charities. Make sure to download the printable event poster before you head out for the night.

Doggie Howl-o-ween Costume Party

Date: Saturday, October 31, 2020
Time: 1 pm
Location: Ginter’s Field
Hosted by: Beckaroo Banzai

This event is sure to please dog owners and their pups. Dress yourself and your furry friend up in your Halloween best and head to Ginter’s Field for a physically distanced doggie get-together. Familes and spectators are welcome but everyone is asked to respect each other’s space, to request to pet dogs, and to bring a mask if you’d like.

Regardless of how you spend your Halloween please stay safe!

All the best,

Tim
