Mann Dental
Age: 39
Dr. Nav Mann couldn’t wait to get back home to Prince George. While many professions now offer training in this city, dentistry still does not. He moved to get his Bachelor of Science at the University of Victoria (a Biochemistry and Microbiology double-major), then went to UBC for final dental credentials. He was back in P.G. by 2004.
He began working in a pre-established dental clinic but dreamed of making it his own, and he got the chance. “He transformed it into a modern, state-of-the-art practice while keeping business principles in mind,” said a supporter. “He spent time, after patient-care hours, developing a vision and mission for his business, and created and implemented policies and procedures. This is very unique for a dental practice.”
He also took additional training in sedation dentistry techniques and became the first local dentist to offer I.V. sedation to patients. Additionally, he developed a plan for Family Dental Care now two years in operation – a dentistry network within the city that also services the outer region. There are now five locations and about 100 employees under the FDC umbrella.
Mann dedicates his time, also, to passing on his extensive knowledge to the next generation in the dental field as an instructor at CNC’s Dental Studies program. Mann also stresses strong recruitment strategies for his staff, then adds ongoing training and tools to ensure their work is top quality.
With a strong community network for FDC comes a strong community commitment from its co-founder. Mann donates time, finances and other resources to causes like the Elizabeth Fry Society, UNBC athletics, PG Symphony Orchestra, BC-SPCA, BC Children’s Hospital, Ducks Unlimited, the Taste Of India fundraiser for Rotary, he enters a team for the Relay For Life and Run For The Cure cancer events, plus numerous sports teams, special events and other social development initiatives.
