I’ve been lucky enough to document the different stages of my life through photography. My career, my wedding, my pregnancy and now since welcoming my son into the world it will be my new journey as a mom. I have always loved doing photo shoots and I can’t believe how different they are becoming! Today we are celebrating Kai’s 6 month anniversary with some fun fall images amongst a backdrop of beautiful oranges and reds.
The first step in planning your family photos is your attire. After looking through a variety of different ideas through Pinterest, I set out with a vision for my outfit. My first stop was the obvious Pine Centre Mall since it has over 100 stores, including one of my personal favourites, a trendy urban shop called Homework, where I purchased some cozy wool socks. Next, I took a left and made my way to Ardene, a clothing and accessory store, which is actually most popular among teens. I often find myself shopping at Ardene for my shoots because it is so affordable and a lot of the time I only end up wearing some items once. I found the perfect comfy looking sweater that I knew would go well with some dark denim jeans I already had so it completed my ensemble. I knew Kai would be easy because he looks all mushy gushy adorable with his little cheekies no matter what he’s wearing. Surprisingly I have had the most luck at the right price with kids clothing at Superstore. It is located on Ferry Avenue, which happens to be walking distance from my house so I grabbed the stroller and took a short stroll down to pick out his get up. May as well kill 2 birds with 1 stone and get some exercise in! I found a Joe Fresh miniature jean jacket and some little khakis that were so cute I almost died! For my husband, I always find something at Winners regardless of if we need formal or casual. There you can get name brand clothes for less than name brand prices. Plus, it’s just a skip and a hop away from Costco so how could I not resist dropping in after my weekly grocery trip when it’s just so conveniently close!?
With clothing out of the way, I was eager and excited to meet up with M. Receveur Photography for what I knew would be some gorgeous shots that would go perfectly in our Xmas cards. Her photos are always very romantic with a slight vintage feel. I find the images are very emotional based and candid which is exactly what we needed. We met at Cottonwood Island Nature Park where you can catch a view of the historical vertical-lift rail bridge where the Fraser and Nechako Rivers meet. Every corner you look around has a new photo op so I knew we could get a variety of different shots there, including some by the water.
I couldn’t be happier with the result of the photos and luckily my little man was all smiles. Just make sure your kiddo has a full belly beforehand and you should be golden!
