Furqana Khan is genuinely an international individual. At only 22 years of age, Furqana exploited her many travels to learn to read, write and comprehend not only English, but French, Arabic, Urdu, and Hindi. She maintains fluency in three. Regarding academics, Furqana was recently awarded the Canadian Citizenship Celebration Scholarship, not long after earning a Bachelor of Social Work Degree from the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC).
“Furqana is young yet,” says one supporter. “And I’m excited to see what great work she will do in her lifetime and for this community.”
Furqana is now registered with both the British Columbia College of Social Workers and the British Columbia Association of Social Workers to become an active registered social worker. Furqana registered with the Conference of the Canadian Association for Social Work Education and attended the Congress for the Federation of Humanities and Social Sciences as a UNBC delegate on the national student committee to participate at the annual general meeting.
From taking leadership as an elective during high school to being the VP of the Leadership club during college as well as the co-chair of the Youth in Philanthropy Committee at the PGCF, Furqana held several leadership positions. Furqana completed several social work practicum placements, learning about individual needs while working with clients from a variety of backgrounds. She is or has been a volunteer for multiple agencies in town, including the Youth in Philanthropy Committee, the School of Social Work Committee at UNBC, BC Cancer Agency, Canadian Cancer Society, University Hospital of Northern BC, 24 Hour Cancer Relay, 2015 Canada Games, and many more. Furqana is an enthusiastic organizer and leader in our community.
