One of the greatest parts of living in Prince George is that it’s big enough for all the holiday fun of a larger city, yet small enough for all that small-town holiday feel – Halloween is no exception!
I LOVE Halloween. I mean, the opportunity to dress up as someone you’ve always wanted to be, have pumpkin everything and basically endless candy, what’s not to love!? (See the photo of my dream of being Princess Peach come to life).
There are always so many options for activities and events to choose from. I am going to share some of the great things to do to celebrate a Spooktacular Halloween!
For the family

Visit the annual Huble Homestead Halloween Spooktacular! There is something for every member of the family as they boast “Prince George’s spookiest Halloween haunt!” complete with a spooky maze, graveyard and House of Horrors, in addition to pumpkin carving, costume contests, crafts and a Magic Show with William the Conjurer- Will is an awesome local talent. He has joined our YMCA team for multiple years at YMCA Healthy Kids Day and does not ever disappoint! Plus, there is no better excuse than Halloween to stop by the General Store and stock up on some giant gobstoppers and your old fashioned favourite candy.
Or if you are looking for something a little closer to home, visit the Haunted Maze at the fairgrounds- admission is by donation. This annual event hosts scares ranging from child to advanced.
For the party-goer
If you love the festivities of Halloween, but you are looking for something a little more sophisticated, then Menagerie is for YOU! This annual event hosted by the Two Rivers Art Gallery offers a live entertainment, appetizers, silent auction, fortune tellers and beer from our own CrossRoads Brewing.
If you’re looking for a simple and classic Halloween Party with costumes, dancing and delicious late-night snacks, then join me at my favourite celebration in town. The Hart Community Centre puts on an amazing spread and it has easily become our favourite place to show off our festive spirit. There are plenty of tables to sit at and visit, great music with a large dance floor, costume prizes, seriously the BEST late-night snacks (think perogies and every sweet you could imagine), AND a free shuttle home – this makes the trek to the Hart worth it even if you don’t live in the neighbourhood.
For those wanting an ADVENTURE!
The newest addition to my Halloween celebrations this year is a visit to the Cariboo Corn Maze, Haunted Maze and House. This for the adventurous only as it is about an hour away from Prince George, in Quesnel; however, I have heard so many amazing things that I have decided it’s worth the drive!
They have two events to choose from: the Mildly Haunted Day-Time Corn Maze where you will be encouraged a couple of friendly ghosts and goblins. (Also, your admission includes tractor rides and farmyard animals- WHAT?!) The Very Haunted Night-Time Corn Maze is pretty intense. “It’s not for the faint of heart of sensitive children.” I have heard that this is a good scare for those of you who are into the fright part of Halloween. I have to admit that I am a huge WUSSY; but even I plan to check this one out this year. Bonus? You can bring your pooch! And There’s a bonfire and concession, so I can reward my bravery with some hot coco.
Bonus tips to a Happy Halloween: Pick up a candy apple from Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. It’s so good you won’t even regret the sugar overload. And post photos of your pets in their costumes because the world needs more cuteness (see Daisy as a monster <3 ).
