Looking for some last minute, easy spring break activities for yourself or your littles? Look no further! A couple of ideas from my summer activities blog may work for you as well. If you’re heading out with extra tiny humans for some fresh air and sunshine, I also wrote a blog on some stroller friendly trails in and around the city.
Get moving!
Rock climbing
Trying out the climbing gym OVERhang has been on my bucket list since moving to Prince George. Their FAQ page is a great place to start if you’ve never been. You can pop by the gym and start with low-bouldering, or auto-belays. The gym offers a 2.5 hour long Learn to Belay class that’s worth checking out.
Bowling
There are a few options for bowling around town. Strike Zone has 16, 10 pin bowling lanes and also offers a glow-in-the-dark mini golf course. Nechako Lanes and Black Diamond are five-pin bowling lanes that are both located downtown. Check out their websites for hours and pricing info. For younger kiddos like my own, try using the bowling ball “slides” to guide the ball down the alleyways. With my family, this usually results in my kids having a substantially higher score than myself. There are some things that get better with age, apparently my bowling score is not one of them.
Arts and crafts
Painting and hiding rocks
An easy, cheap craft for kids of all ages! Cottonwood Island Park seems to be the most popular park to discover hidden, painted rocks. Other places we tend to find these hidden treasures are LC Gunn Park, Forests for the World, and occasionally at Ginter’s Meadow. We use Dollar Store acrylic paint and spray or coat them with a clear varnish. Michael’s also sells these great paint pens which are a bit less messy and nice for smaller designs. Check out the PG Rocks Facebook group as members often post where they’re hiding them for kids to find, and share great pictures of their creative rocks. With snow melting to reveal great hiding spots, it’s a perfect time to head out to some local parks and trails to hide painted rocks with your little ones.
Two Rivers Gallery classes
Two Rivers Gallery is offering a few Spring Break Camps (space-permitting), as well as the Sunday Open Studio from 1-4 with a different activity every week. All ages are welcome, and 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
Watts Arts Academy

Watts Arts Academy now has a Colour Club, where members receive a kit in the mail, and a corresponding online class. Check our the owner’s website for online and hybrid class offerings, or pop by her store with any questions or for some great quality art supplies.
Backyard fun
Paint some snow! Fill a spray bottle with water and some drops of food colouring to paint the snow. My kids had a blast with this. I thought I’d successfully set my kids up with some fun outdoor entertainment. After a while, my son came in with green hair and thought it was hilarious, and a little too early for St. Patrick’s Day at the time. It washed out easily enough.

Under normal circumstances, my little family (like many others!) would have travelled around Christmas time. We decided to do a staycation here instead. We chose the Pomeroy Inn and Suites, mainly for their pool and waterslides. Time is reserved for the pool ahead of time to limit numbers. My kids had a blast. Check into one of the great hotels around town, support a local restaurant for a delicious meal, and hit up one of our beautiful walking trails or parks.
