Beyond downtown: A short guide of other places to eat

It’s undeniable that there is a new energy downtown, which is partially being driven by many trendy new restaurants. While I love to have a night out on the town and enjoy the downtown scene, lately I have been finding many other gems that are located in other parts of the city. If you are looking for new places to eat, here are some other amazing considerations.

The Bistro at the Northern Lights Estate Winery

A restaurant with arguably the best view in town, the Northern Lights Estate Winery offers an outstanding lunch and dinner menu throughout the week, as well as brunch on the weekend. They also offer a wide variety of cocktails along with their signature fruit wines. The food is stellar and is matched by the view of the Nechako River just steps away. Make sure you get a spot on the patio during those warm summer nights.

The Salted Cracker

While The Salted Cracker technically has a downtown location (featured in the photo), they also have 3 other locations throughout the city for your convenience, which is the basis of their business. If you’re looking for a quick comforting meal, check out their rotating menu of homemade soups, gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches, and grab and go lunch options. The best part is their homemade crackers, which add a nice finishing touch to your soup.

The BX Pub

Located in a building that looks like an old river steamboat, this neighbourhood establishment offers the right kind of pub atmosphere with a menu full of your old pub favourites along with some new twists. Recent rumours also suggest that you can organize a big birthday bash that is fit for royalty at The BX Pub, which makes this place worth checking out.

SENDO Ramen

If you are looking for a Japanese fix, you need to try out SENDO for their amazing variety of ramen. Located in the Bon Voyage Plaza, it is a bit of a trek if you live in the Bowl or the Hart. But the journey is worth it for one of their warm bowls of broth, noodles, and many other goodies.
