A healthy move

Pursuing personal training

After graduating from a high school in Prince George, I decided to make a big move and start my new adult life in Calgary, Alberta. Itching for a big change, I had hopes of bigger and better things awaiting me in Calgary.

That is where I started my fitness journey and decided to hire a personal trainer to show me the ropes and teach me how to get healthy and fit. With his guidance, I smashed my 35 pound weight loss goal and was feeling stronger and more confident than ever. It seemed like I had everything I could ever need, yet I still missed my hometown so much. I came to the conclusion that it just wasn’t the same being away from my friends and family and chose to move back to where I belong.

Continuing my fitness journey outdoors in Prince George

Being back in Prince George really made me realize how grateful I am for the beauty around us and how many local and close by options there are for me to keep up my fitness and healthy lifestyle that has become so important to me. We have so many different hikes close to home including the University of Northern British Columbia Connector Trail, Forests for the World and the LC Gunn Park trail. One hour away, we also have one of BC’s best kept secrets: the Ancient Forest/Chun T’oh Whudujut where you can see 2,000 year old cedars. Those who are into mountain biking can explore the extensive Pidherny Bike Trails, which range from easy to hard and have various structures and jumps.

Winter time brings us even more selection. There are 3 major ski hills close by, including the Hart Highlands Ski Hill, the Purden Ski ResortPowder King Mountain Resort, which is the largest hill in the area and gets 41 feet of amazing powder per year. All of the trails used for hiking in the summer transform into snowshoeing trails during the winter, including at the Otway Nordic Ski Centre, which offers rentals and has 20 different trails with a combined distance of 45 kms, including groomed dog and ski trails that can also be explored day or night.

Positive benefits of outdoor exercise

Outdoor exercise has been proven to decrease anxiety, tension and depression. It also increases energy and positive attitude overall. This is why I feel so blessed to live in a place with so many activities and natural beauty waiting to be experienced by anyone who is up for the challenge. Bringing movement to life is not only my profession, it’s my passion. Life is better when you are healthy and Prince George is the perfect place to achieve a higher level of fitness and an improved quality of life.
