With the last of the snow melting and green buds finally emerging on the bushes and trees, it is time to start transitioning from winter hibernation mode to taking advantage of the warm summer days. Last year, I spent many Saturdays exploring the amazing gems in downtown Prince George. As the days are now growing longer, I am eager to start doing the same this summer.
Here are some of my favourites that you can use to plan your perfect Saturday!
Wake up with a trip to the local Farmers’ Market
One of my favourite ways to start the weekend is with a bike ride to the Prince George Farmers’ Market to explore the beautiful local products that our community has to offer. As the summer goes on, it’s amazing what you can find that’s grown or made right here in our region.
Last summer, after I loaded my backpack up with a wide variety of goodies, I would stop and grab morning coffee and breakfast at one of the many downtown restaurants such as Ohh Chocolate or Nancy O’s before making the journey home with a full belly and a little extra weight.
Back downtown for shopping and lunch
Once I unloaded my bags, I would often make my way downtown again to explore the wide variety of stores. More often than not, I can find everything I need to complete my weekend chores downtown, thanks to the many local merchants such as Homework and Northern Hardware that carry a variety of unique products I need to complete my tasks.
Once I finished exploring, the next course of action would be to find some lunch, which more often than not included a refill of my growler at CrossRoads, or this summer at newcomer Trench Brewing.
Dinnertime in the downtown
Once the evening settles in, that doesn’t mean it’s time to go home quite yet. Downtown is home to many of the amazing dining experiences in Prince George and sometimes it’s hard to narrow down the selection. One way that I’ve made a decision in the past was to get a sense of what events were taking place that night and then plan dinner around them. It seems like the Prince George events calendar is filling up faster and faster and whether you want to take in a concert, comedy show, or community workshops, there is always something fun to do!
