About the opportunity:
You will be responsible for leading a cohort of 15-20 at-risk youth, ideally throughout their high school experience starting in Grade 8 until Grade 12 graduation. The Youth Leader is to provide guidance and mentorship while instructing/coordinating student-focused curriculum activities for each year. Some of these activities include recreational, outdoor, land-based, tutorial, cultural, and experiential programming. It is expected that the incumbent will follow the policies and procedures of the STRIVE program as outlined and agreed to by the Steering Committee and enforce and implement the STRIVE Youth Code of Conduct. The position works a variety of shifts to meet community needs.
About your background:
Along with a passion for making a difference, you have at least one year of post-secondary education in one of the following fields: Social Services Worker; Community Support Worker; Youth Care Worker; Indigenous Education Worker; Education Assistant; Psychology; Social Work; or Education. Training and certifications in First Aid; Therapeutic Crisis Intervention, Trauma Informed Practice, and Food Safe are all recommended. You have at least two (2) years of related experience in working with Youth at Risk aged 13-18. Your strong communication skills make you ideal for this role. The successful applicant must be able to obtain and maintain a clear Police Information Check for offences related to the position.
