Corporal Darren Fitzpatrick Park, renamed in 2011 to honour this local fallen hero and all Canadian soldiers, features the City’s newest skate park.  A number of other upgrades are proposed for the park, such as a fenced dog park, an expanded playground, and picnic areas.

The Cottonwood Island Nature Park trail system is a great way to explore the edge of the Nechako River and some of the wilderness areas in the city. At the park entrance is a trail map outlining the network of trails including the Willow, Grove, Cottonwood, Limestone, Hazelnut and Dogwood Trails. The trail system is also part of the 11km Heritage River Trail leading to Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park. While you enjoy walking the trails, try to spot the faces hidden in the trees.  You can walk your dog in this park, as long as you use a leash.

The trail extends from the Cameron Street overpass to Carrie Jane Gray Park, with only two major road crossings. Follow the Carney Street alternative route and side trails to make a complete circuit of more than 11 km on your journey. The trail is designed to accommodate diverse user groups, such as walkers, joggers, cyclists and people with mobility devices. Find this route with signs bearing the Heritage Trails logo. Dogs can be walked along the trail system as long as they are on-leash.

LC Gunn Park – a forested park with 3.5 km of trails – meanders along the bluffs of the Fraser River through a forest with various viewpoints of the city. The trail follows a similar route that was travelled by earlier surveyors who were planning the railway line. Dog walkers, joggers, and mountain bikers share the rustic trails at LC Gunn Park. To find LC Gunn Park, follow Highway 16 East across the Yellowhead Bridge. Turn right onto Guay Road and follow the gravel road to the parking lot, where you will find the entrance to LC Gunn Park.

Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park is among the more popular community park destinations for families, groups and sightseers in the city. It is the city’s largest park covering over 65 acres of well-maintained lawns dissected by pathways leading to viewing benches looking out over the Fraser River. The park contains beautiful flower gardens, a children’s playground and water park, the Little Prince Train. In the centre of the park is the Lheidli T’enneh burial ground as the park was once the homeland of the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation. The 60-hectare nature park is situated within a glacial kettle – a unique geological landform formed after the ice age. Moore’s Meadow Nature Park boasts a forested hillside area, providing a viewpoint for many different ecosystems, including a large meadow area at the bottom of the glacial kettle. The Prince George Symphony Orchestra (PGSO) is a producer of quality symphonic music with a core of extremely talented and dedicated professional musicians. It is also the only professional or semi-professional orchestra in the area encompassing the entire northern province west of Prince George to the west coast, north to the Arctic Ocean, at least 400 kilometers to the east, and 520 kilometers south.  The PGSO is the cultural leader in Prince George and central and northern BC in terms of live classical music.
