Looking for something to do to beat the boredom of physical distancing? In-person events have been cancelled to help lessen the spread of COVID-19, but that doesn’t mean there’s nothing left to do. Here’s our monthly event wrap up for May that we put together in partnership with Tourism Prince George to add some fun back into your daily routine.

FanCon from Home

Despite the convention having to reschedule to September, Northern FanCon isn’t just sitting around waiting for the new dates! From May 8 – 10th, join live streaming events featuring friends of FanCon, fun roundtable conversation with artists, cosplayers, and aspiring filmmakers. More details to be announced closer to the event.

CFURadio Bingo is back

Physically distance yourself, grab your good luck charm, and get ready to play radio bingo with CFUR 88.7! Visit cfur.ca/bingo or call 778-693-2387 and press 4 to buy your CFURadio bingo paper for $2.00. Each sheet has three cards for three games. On May 8th, tune into CFUR 88.7 to play. Call the station number when you have a bingo and they’ll confirm your bingo over the phone and ask you to mail in your sheet. You can win a CFURadiothon swag pack, original Prince George rock merch, art, comic books, or $100. All proceeds from this event will support the CFURadio Youth Academy and help upgrade ageing broadcast equipment.

Get ready Prince George! Our favourite community mascot is celebrating his big 60th this Friday, and luckily for us, the City of Prince George and some community partners have gotten together to throw him a little virtual party.

Visit princegeorge.ca/mrpg for details or follow @therealmrpg on Instagram to stay in the loop. Prizes, special birthday treats, and activities are all in order. Plus, order from select Farmer’s Market vendors this week and you might receive a special pint of Frozen Paddle spruce tips ice cream from Mr. PG himself!

Drive-In movie night

Park Drive-In Theatre

The Park Drive-In Theatre is now open for the summer season! After making some operational adjustments, folks can now enjoy a night out from the safety of their own vehicles. Movies change nightly and run Thursday to Sunday.

2nd annual Hospice Colour Walk

Walk 100 km for yourself and for a great cause. Throughout the month of May, locals are challenged to walk their neighbourhoods, backyards and favourite trails to get their steps in while raising pledges to support the Prince George Hospice Society. Each Friday also features a friendly colour-finding scavenger hunt.

Work on that golf swing

Get back into the swing of things at many of Prince George’s golf courses. As courses across the city begin to open for the season, businesses are adjusting to new rules, procedures, and sanitizing practices to keep guests safe.

Virtual Mother’s Day celebration

Every day at 4:00 pm, the Central BC Railway & Forestry Museum goes live on Facebook and take guests on a virtual tour with different community groups and partners. Each day will feature new activities and entertainment ideas to prepare for the perfect Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 10th.

Drive-In trivia night

Drive-in trivia

Join your host Dave for a fun trivia night at the CN Centre parking lot. Participants are encouraged to get take-out for #TakeoutDay and to make it a full night-out experience and park a few stalls between vehicles. Trivia can be heard through the radio, 103.1 FM, with different trivia themes hosted weekly.

Rooftop Rock

Experience a one-of-a-kind event on May 23rd when Studio 720 hits the stage atop the roof of Canadian Tire. The parking lot will be reconfigured for a drive-in friendly concert, where attendees can listen to the band live through their vechicle’s radio. The concert is free of charge but organizers are asking attendees to consider making a donation to the local cycling team, Wheelin’ Warriors of the North who raise funds for the BC Cancer Foundation.

With over 200 varieties split between flowers, veggies, herbs, and fruits – the David Douglas Botanical Garden Society’s yearly plant sale was a local favourite. Thanks to some savvy volunteers, the largest plant event in Prince George is going virtual so our hobby gardeners can get to work planting for the summer season. Folks will be able to place online orders, and have their new plants delivered right to their doorstep!
