Get to know Prince George from a local point of view.

Prince George – Great for families and DINKs

Everyone always talks about what an incredible place Prince George is for those with families – now I cannot argue that at all. In fact, I wholeheartedly agree that is truly the most amazing place to plant roots and watch them little babies grow.

But I want to share the best-kept secret for every 20 and 30-something out there…Prince George is the best place for DINKS – the-dual-income-no-kids couple.

Now I know what you are thinking. As a young professional often the idea of moving to a place that’s known for settling down and starting a family, is basically like imagining that you are sitting pool-side at a Disney resort where you’re trying to read your book and drink your margarita and some energetic kids keep jumping in the water splashing all over you…you’re thinking why would I sign up for that when I can sign up for the adults-only option (i.e. the big city)?!

Well, friends, PG has so much to offer for those of us that aren’t quite ready to settle down or have different ideas of what they want their life to look like.

Think – the Job you WANT.

Think – NOT Living in a basement suite.

Think – NO commute.

Oh and think – still having enough cash to travel to all the places you pin on Pinterest.

The job you WANT

My husband Sunny and I are 27 and 28 respectively (I am a Cougar, yes I know). We both work in jobs we LOVE where our colleagues are a decade or more ahead in age. That’s because there are more opportunities in the north. It’s a fact. Smaller pond = less fish. Less fish = less competition. Less competition = better jobs. Better jobs = more money.

Another day at the office.

No Basement Suites

So it’s not to say that basement suites don’t exist here, because they do. If you are wanting to live in a basement suite you absolutely can. In fact, PG has a huge rental market with fantastic options all over the city. What I am saying is – as we learned from the math above where better jobs = more money – you can afford to actually own.

No Commute

Imagine if you could own the home you wanted and live within 10-15 minutes of work…where you don’t have to choose between affordability and commute time. What would you do with all that extra time?

Well for us, some days we spend that time being workaholics to move up the ladder faster; some days we spend it enjoying time outside; some days we spend it traveling the world (I just returned from a month in Southeast Asia); and more often than not we spend it at our favourite urban hot spots or one of the endless social events.
