Sleigh ride bells are a ringing at these three ranches

If you want to get outside and enjoy a little winter magic this holiday season, a sleigh ride might be just what you’re looking for. There are three ranches within a short driving distance of Prince George that offer sleigh rides to make your holidays merry and bright!

Crazy M Ranch

Crazy M Ranch is located just 20 minutes west of Prince George. This 320 acre farm has been in the Mueller family since 1972 and they started offering sleigh rides about six years ago.

They normally run two sleighs that hold 18 adults each, but are only running one this winter pulled by draft horses Ginger and Raz due to COVID restrictions. They are currently booking into January so make sure to claim your spot quickly! Then bundle up and then snuggle up with your group under cozy blankets provided for extra warmth and enjoy an hour’s worth of snow covered views.

After your ride, warm up in an on-site cabin called The Bar where you can enjoy complimentary hot chocolate, coffee, and cookies. You’re welcome to bring your own food to munch on, but will need to bring slow cookers if you want to heat up food as only outlets are available in the cabin. Prefer to stay outside? Build a bonfire to keep warm!

*Please note that anyone 12 and over is required to show proof of double COVID vaccination.

Woodhouse Cottages and Ranch

Woodhouse Cottages and Ranch is new to the sleigh ride scene in Prince George. This is their first year offering horse-drawn tours of their 300 acre ranch, which is located only 20 minutes from Prince George just past Mud River.

They started offering horse-drawn wagon rides in mid-November and have transitioned to sleigh rides now that there’s enough snow on the ground. They’re currently booked through to the New Year, so make sure to get your spot before they’re filled for the winter season!

Their wagon rides are offered year-round and hold eight people, while their sleigh holds 12. The day of your booking, put on your warmest jacket, toque, and mitts, and get ready to cozy up with your family and friends for an hour long tour of the ranch provided by draft horses Jack and Prince. You can bring blankets or use the ones provided.

After your ride, warm up around a campfire and enjoy complimentary hot chocolate and cookies.

If you’re feeling hungry, check out the small concession where you’ll find hot dogs, chips, s’mores, pop, and water.

* Note that a vaccine passport is not required, but everyone on a ride must be part of the same group.

Triple D Draft Horses

Triple D Draft Horses is located down the Blackwater Road, which is about a 20 minute drive from Prince George. Horse pulling is a long-standing family passion for the Delberts, and they’re happy to share their love of this competitive sport with area residents by offering sleigh rides.

Sleigh rides aren’t running during the 2021/2022 season, but the Delberts hope to offer them again next winter. When they’re back, book ahead of time to experience a ride around the farm in one of two sleighs pulled by beautiful draft horses and decorated with jingling bells. Keep an eye open for large ornaments hanging from the tree lined trail.

After the ride, stop by the Sugar Shack to grab a warm drink, hot dog, or chips from the concession area and to warm up by the brightly burning bonfires.
