Get to know Prince George from a local point of view.

Wandering the weekend markets

Visiting the local farmers’ market is akin to being invited into the collective home of the community. Shelves and walls are tucked with passion projects, homesteading skills and active history of place and land.

For visitors to one of our many farmers’ markets, you’ll be greeted by growers, makers and bakers. You’ll hit up conversations with both young and multi-generational farmers working in tough northern climates, rugged ranchers and passionate bakers and canners who have created their own spin on crowd-favourite products or have mastered handed down recipes. You’ll get to sample cuisines from around the world, meet skilled crafters and artists and take in live performances as you wander the stalls.

In Prince George, you can visit four distinct markets within the same weekend.

WILSON SQUARE MARKET

From the start of May until the middle of October, the Wilson Square Market is abuzz with local food producers, musicians and shoppers milling about. Traditional farm-fresh meats and produce are available, alongside wild-foraged items such as fiddleheads and morels when in season. You’ll also find an array of art, soap and preserves.

This market pops up on Saturdays from 8:30 am to 2 pm outside the courthouse in the downtown core.

PRINCE GEORGE FARMERS’ MARKET

Operating all year within their downtown building, this is the only local market to run throughout the entire year. During May, and until roughly October, the market expands and triples in size with outdoor vendors lining the street adjacent to the building. The market runs every Saturday from 8:30 am to 2 pm at 1310 3rd Ave.

The Prince George Farmers’ Market has been operating since 1994 and has a variety of products to peruse and purchase. You’ll find local honey, microgreens and a variety of meats from lamb, goat, pork, beef and even bison. For those looking for quick grab-and-go treats, you’ll find freshly made crackers, locally roasted coffee, apple chips, BBQ sauces and even chews for your pup. Food trucks, live music and special events rotate throughout the year.

PINEVIEW COMMUNITY MARKET

Located near the Airport, this new market sprung up in 2021 outside the Pineview Community Hall on 6470 Bendixon Rd. Shoppers can check out a range of garden veggies and handcrafted items. You’ll find mint jellies, crochet stuffed animals, custom woodworking, jewellery, sauces and much more. The market runs from 10 am to 2 pm from June to the end of September.

EAGLES FARMERS’ MARKET

This brand new market is hitting the ground running with its first season in 2022. It’s early days, so not much is known about the vendors just yet, but it has been confirmed the market will run on Sundays from mid-May to October.

The market will be located at 6742 Dagg Road and run from 8 am to 2 pm.
