Resolutions for 2021: Explore, eat, and drink more local!

Happy New Year everyone. I hope that when you are reading this you are well and had the opportunity to enjoy a bit of the holiday season. I can say that the past couple weeks looked a lot different than normal but the time spent with my wife and boys has been great and life actually slowed life down a bit.   I would be lying if I said I am glad to see 2020 end, and I hope that 2021 is a bit brighter!

As the new calendar goes on the wall, I not only reflect back on the previous year but set resolutions for the New Year. As I have the privilege of being the first Move Up Blogger of 2021, I found it fitting for me to share my resolutions with you all.

Growing up in Prince George I have seen a lot of our community and region. However, there is still a lot of the region that I personally have not had the opportunity to explore. I am almost embarrassed to say that there are two local favourites I have never been to. These two locations are on my list for 2021. First is the Ancient Forest. The rest of my family have been, and I have driven by it a lot but haven’t stopped there. I have also never had the opportunity to explore one of the region’s other greatest treasures. The second is Hixon Falls. Again, I have driven by it on numerous occasions but have never made the trip to see the falls. Stay tuned for future blogs about my family’s adventures.

The fact that I love coffee is no secret. However, I would say that 9/10 times, I am grabbing my coffee from a franchise because of convenience. We have some pretty amazing local coffee shops including Ritual Coffeeworks, Zoe’s Java House, The Makerie, and House of Ancestors. For a full list of local coffee shops, read this previous Move Up blog. We also have North Roast Coffee and Hearth & Hinterland Roasters that sell their locally roasted beans throughout our community. In 2021, I want to make more of an effort to get my morning (and/or afternoon) pick me up from some of PG’s great local coffee houses, and if I am making coffee at home or at the office, to use some beans from North Roast or other local and regional roasters. This blog has some great tips for making that perfect cup of home or office brewed coffee.

Prince George has some amazing local restaurants and I do like to visit many of them. However, I am also a creature of habit. I seem to frequent the same spots on a regular basis (and even more of a spoiler alert, I usually order the same things). Over the next year I want branch out a bit more and try to find my next favourite.

More PG love

Those who have read my previous blogs know that I truly love our community and want to continue to spread the word about how great (and affordable) Prince George is. Did I mention I have a three-minute commute to work? Over the course of the year, I am going to use every opportunity to talk about the community I love and in which I choose to live, work, play, and raise a family.

Wishing you all the best in 2021!
